Frequently Asked Questions about Posterjack Metal Prints

What is a metal print?

  • A metal print is product that is unique to posterjack. We print your photo or image directly onto a special metal sheet called Alu-Dibond. Then we cut your piece of art out using a special CAD cutting machine for a crisp and clean piece of modern art. Alu-Dibond is made from two sheets of aluminum and a polystyrene core. This means that Metal Prints are lightweight and extremely rigid.

How will the colours turn out on my Metal Print?

  • Because we are printing on a metal base (brushed aluminum) as opposed to a white base such as paper, the colours will be a little bit different than you would get on paper. Due to this we can’t guarantee 100% colour accuracy. What we can guarantee are very pleasing colours that are extremely close to the original. Keep in mind that the point of a metal print is to have something unique, so exact colour matching is not the objective.

Does the bare metal show through?

  • The bare metal shows through in areas where pure white is found in the photograph. When viewed in combination with the other colours printed on the sheet, the metal itself tricks the eye into looking a lot whiter than it actually is. The result is something totally unique and eye-catching!

Will a black and white photo look good on metal?

  • Black and White images look absolutely amazing on metal! The contrast between the deep blacks and the bright metal create a very vivid piece of art! We especially recommended this for shows and exhibits when you want your art to fly off the walls and into customers hands!

How do I hang my Metal Print on the wall?

  • Our basic Metal Prints are delivered as a flat sheet, perfect to lean on a mantle, on an easel, or otherwise. If you need to hang your metal print on a wall, we have two amazing hanging solutions for you. Our standard solution is called a "standoff system". We start by drilling a hole in each corner of the Metal Print. When you receive your print at home, you use the standoffs to secure the print to the wall on all four corners. The result is that the print floats off the wall by ½ inch, providing a modern and industrial look that compliments the Metal Print really well. On our most popular print sizes, we offer either a brushed black or brushed silver metal frame. These frames are the perfect upscale touch to finish your Metal Print into a drop-dead gorgeous piece of custom art.

Will any of my photo be cropped during the metal production process?

  • When your metal print is cut out from the large metal sheet, the specialized machinery will cut one quarter (1/4) inch off from the perimeter of your photo. In technical terms, this is considered “bleed”. If you would like to set up your file to accommodate for this, you will need to size your photo one quarter (1/4) inch larger on all sides (or 1/2 inch per axis).
